Happy St. George’s Day
England Lives!
Despite everything the press would have you believe, ENGLAND is actually a fine place.
It has a varied landscape and a varied population most of which live together in a relatively stable relationship. Sadly the landscape is slowly giving way to over population however and again if you believe the press, crime as a percentage of the population is decreasing.
This is probably why there is very little in the news.
Being patriotic for one’s own country is a natural thing, it is our home and a place in which we belong. It is our history which goes back 10,000s years, our past present and future and most of us care about it in some way.
We have things to be proud of and most of all we should be proud that this Emerald Isle has stood the test of time and that the English nation at least has managed to maintain itself. . . despite being one of the most invaded countries through history, it seems everyone wants to live here!
It is difficult to believe that people who decide to move to that part of the UK called England simply do so because of the generous benefits (though some do – separate discussion), it is easier to believe that they are impressed with the comparative lifestyle they could have here and most by far work hard to achieve that.
Of course England has done a few things we should not be proud of, things that in there time were so right they were even underwritten by Parliament and the church. As a nation we have tried to come to terms with that and rebalance our views.
Our Home
For most of us, England is our home and it is indeed part of our identity and for those who have moved here it seems only right that their adopted country should do the same for them irrespective of their own ‘systems’. After all when you take up British (this obviously includes England as well as some other minor countries) citizenship you are pledging allegiance to the crown and therefore to the country itself.
A thing you should remember from time to time.
A Note About State
England and indeed all the other countries that combine to form the United Kingdom is a state. It has a ruling organisation, a religious order and of course a legal system.
England has always been about people getting on despite differing backgrounds and other than a few grumbles with Normans vs Saxons and Scotland vs England it generally achieves a peaceful state despite recent religious issues.
The state though has had to make allowances more recently for our new arrivals however it should not and must not allow its legal system to fall foul of influences brought in by external systems with those who choose to live here.
Those who choose to live here have sworn allegiance to the country which by default means that they adopt everything that this entails with the exception of religious belief. Here in the wider UK, we have separated church/religion from state and have a clearly defined legal system which takes precedence over all.
A thing you should remember from time to time.
Footnote
It seems though that this article moved towards being about bashing the press for all of those negative stories about race, religion, gang warfare, immigration, job security and so on. This is not the intention but for many people the press is their only channel of information whether it’s the news on TV or perhaps the papers and so this is why views can be so negative.
