Eastenders end of an Era
Peggy Leaves Eastenders
Ever since I gave up watching soaps, I have enjoyed all of the time that religiously sitting in front of the TV at 19:30 twice a week gave back to me. Imagine my horror to discover that the soaps have mostly gone to 5 days a week – ignoring the omnibus versions at the weekend.
Last time I watched the soaps there were Coronation Street, Emmerdale Farm, Eastenders and possibly Brookside. There had been a profusion of imported Australian soaps and it seemed that TV programming was mainly about fictitious people living fictitious lives in fictitious places which were all taken as real life events by the non-too-intelligent.
Whilst the northern based soaps such as Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Brookside had themes of humour running through them, the most depressing by far is the very depressive Eastenders. I never got on with that soap, badly written, too dark and predictable. Utter rubbish really what with deaths, returns, ghosts for heavens sake.
Now it emerges that one of the longest serving actors is about to go, Peggy played by Barbara “get aaat of moi paaab” Windsor. Well done to her for dragging out the job for so long and I guess she finally wants to go and who can blame her, she probably needs some form of therapy and rehabilitation to come back into society after being in that show for so long.

I can’t be bothered quite frankly.
FOOTNOTE:
I can’t help wonder of Barbara’s departure is in some way linked to the return of the Carry On Films, that comedic genre that made her famous.
A few cameo appearances perhaps?
