Permanent Damage

Globally, the human race is now aware of the damage it is doing to the planet and as loyal readers will know, this site totally supports this view. It is frustrating to know that as the human race continues to grow, more and more damage will be done purely because developing countries cannot afford to make changes necessary to protect the environment or rather reduce the rate at which they are damaging it.

Is CO2 the only criminal?

We are told about greenhouse gasses, how CO2 and Methane are the most prolific and simply trap heat in the atmosphere, speeding up global warming, ice cap melting and such. This may be the case however as has been poited out before, the internal combustion engine itself purely by getting hot must surely contribute. An engine running at 90-100C must heat up several thousand litres of air by 2C so an atmosphere’s worth must take millions of engines… which we have. CO2 isn’t the only criminal, anything that requires energy is, most energy is released as heat (‘O’ Level Physics).

Why Not Address The Problem?

That’s the rub. The simple answer is of course money. There are many people who stand to loose a fortune if we reduce our dependence on oil and gas. There is an even higher cost in building the alternatives such as nuclear power,and renewable energy and so the damage will continue until we have poisoned the atmosphere to such a level that permanent irreversible damage is done.
